MEC Stream

MEC is among the most popular streams students choose, alongside MPC and BiPC. It provides a strong foundation for pursuing a variety of excellent courses after Intermediate, many of which can lead to high-paying job opportunities both in India and abroad.

One of the top career paths after completing the MEC stream is Chartered Accountancy (CA), which is known for being one of the most lucrative professions globally. However, becoming a CA is both time-intensive and highly challenging, with a difficulty level comparable to prestigious exams like the UPSC and CAT. In addition to CA, students can explore other promising options such as BBA, BCom, BA, and more. These courses also open doors to rewarding career prospects upon completion of higher education.

Marks Distribution for MEC Course

The MEC curriculum consists of five core subjects. The first language is English, and students must choose a second language from available options like Telugu, Sanskrit, Urdu, etc., depending on the educational board. Both the first and second languages carry a maximum of 100 marks each.

Mathematics is divided into two papers: Maths A and Maths B, each conducted for 75 marks. However, for evaluation purposes, the scores are scaled down to 50 marks each, and then combined to make a total of 100 marks for Mathematics.

The Economics paper is conducted for 100 marks. The Commerce subject is split into two parts: Commerce and Accountancy. Each of these is held for 50 marks and together contribute 100 marks to the final Commerce score.

Thus, the maximum marks in the first year are 500, and similarly, 500 marks are allocated for the second year. This brings the total score for the MEC course in Intermediate to 1000 marks.

First Language (English) 100 35
Second Language 100 35
Mathematics - A 75 (scaled to 50) 27
